The analysis considers six regions of the country: North, Northeast, Southeast without São Paulo State, São Paulo State, South and Midwest. The substantial growth in per capita income between 1993 and 1995 is confirmed by an analysis of the increase in the proportion of households having some durable consumption goods. There is a substantial decrease in the inequality of the distribution of income among the economically active persons from 1993 to 2001, but the decrease in the inequality of per capita family income is negligible.
